In 1972, there were several interesting events, information about which will be useful to coin collectors. For a start it is worth highlighting the events in the Republic of Bangladesh. This year a new national currency was proclaimed here - taka, which is divided into 100 points.
Barbados also got its own currency this year. Although this country has been independent for several years, until 1972 British money went there. However, the Barbados dollar came to replace them.
The monetary system in Malta has also changed. Republic switched to decimal division, after which the Maltese pound began to be divided into 100 cents, or 1000 milles. The following coins were put into circulation: cent coins with denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10 and 50 units, as well as milli denominations of 2, 3 and 5 units.
Several other events also occurred, including:
- Change the appearance of the Danish coins in denominations of 1, 2 and 5 crowns. Now they contain 3 monograms of Margrethe II, Queen of Denmark, as well as 3 crowns on a star ornament. The reverse was decorated with a star consisting of 6 waves.
- Silver coinage started in the Cayman Islands. They were produced only 14 years old and contained a portrait of Elizabeth II on the obverse. The reverse was decorated with various stylized drawings corresponding to the country. The coins are issued in four denominations: 50 cents, as well as large denominations of 1.2 and 5 dollars.
- In Nigeria, the national currency, the Nigerian pound, was abolished.
- In 1972, the state of Ceylon changes its name to "Sri Lanka", by which it is known today. The replacement of the Ceylon coins comes Sri Lankan rupee.
