The Republic of Albania is a small country on the West Balkan Peninsula. On 28.7 thousand square kilometers of land belonging to Albania, there are lowland (the Adriatic and Ionian seas) and mountains (the Balkan). The population is highly homogeneous: of the 2.8 million inhabitants, more than 95% of the indigenous Albanians. The capital of the Republic – ancient city of Tirana. Prolonged voluntary self-isolation of Albania did not go to the country for the benefit – now it is considered the poorest in Europe.
The Republic's economy is built on the Albanian Lech, which appeared in 1926. Formally it is divided into a hundred kindrek, but in the catalogue of the coins of Albania change no change. It is made up entirely of Leckie: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 100. But they demand not all: 1. and 2. are not used anymore, although not withdrawn from circulation. To buy such coins Albania is now possible at a reasonable price. From 1926 to 1947, the Lek was divided the market of the country with the Albanian franc. And the price of coins Albania with a value of 1 Lek then equal to the fifth part of the gold franc. The first issue of coins was mixed: 5, 10 kindrek, ¼ , ½, 1 Lek and 2, 5, 20 and 100 francs. In 1939 the number of denominations increased. – joined 2, 5 and 10 Lek.
After 1947, the Lek is the only representative of the national currency. 1 franc was exchanged for 9 Lek. 1964 coin purse of the country were 20 and 50 kindrek. In 1965 an attempt was made to stabilize the economy through monetary reform. The exchange ratio of old to new Lek was 10:1.
However, the value of the coins of Albania continued to "eat" inflation, which caused in 1995-1996, the appearance of 5, 20 and 50 Lek. Such a measure is not particularly improved the situation, and the joy of the collectors in the year 2000, a new coin 100 Lek.
