Latvia, one of Baltic countries located in Eastern Europe. It inhabits about two million people. The capital is Riga – the ancient and beautiful city.
In 1918 Latvia gained independence and its own currency – lats (100 centimes). In circulation then was the centimes - 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and also armor - 1, 2 and 5. The circulation of this money in Latvia ended in 1940, after the country's entry into the Soviet Union, when the Soviet ruble (100 kopecks) was replaced by Latvian lats.
In 1991, Latvia once again seceded from Russia. During this period, monetary estimations of the Latvian ruble, and in October 1993, the lat returns the currency of the country.
