In 1954, French Tunisia began minting coins of 5 francs. This series was in use on the market until 1957.
For the minting of this series, a copper-nickel alloy relevant at that time was used, typical of the minting of coins of small value and intended to meet the economic and financial needs of the domestic market.
Copper-nickel coin of 5 francs had a size peculiar to this series, not exceeding 16 millimeters.
The coin is appreciated for its extraordinarily elegant design. It has a light beige tone. Two circles are minted on its face - one of smaller diameter, superimposed on the other.
The absence of chased or engraved details gives the coin a stylish look and external restraint. In addition to the number "5", reflecting the dignity of the coin, here you can see only the year of release (1954) and the name of the country - Tunisie. The design elements of the front can be attributed only to the clearly convex contour of the inner circle.
The reverse side contains, on the contrary, inscriptions and embossed details that are in contrast with the front part.
In addition, the value for collectors lies in the fact that the coin lasted only 3 years. Then it was withdrawn from circulation, but some copies remained in private use.
