The German States

German States in the XVIII century represent a large number, United geographically, Duchies, kingdoms, principalities, lands and cities. Therefore, a large variety of money is issued by the mints of these possessions.
In 1771, the German States minted banknotes in nominal value:
- 1 pfennig, copper;
- 1/48 thaler, from billon;
- 3 kreuzer, silver;
2 groschel, from billon.
Currency, 1 Pfennig, print State mint Berlin. On the obverse, in four lines, the text is applied: the denomination of the coin – Roman numeral, the name – in two lines, the date of issue. The reverse, in the center, depicts the monogram "FR", the 3rd king Frederick II, the Great, 19th elector of Brandenburg. The monogram is crowned with a crown, at the bottom – the sign "A", the mark of the mint of Berlin.
The coin from the billon, 1/48 thaler, is issued in the same way as Pfennig, only the denomination of the coin is applied in Arabic numerals.
The silver currency, 3 kreuzers, is minted by the mint of Breslau, Duchy of Silesia. On the front side of the coin is printed a symbol in the form of a flying Prussian eagle, which looks to the left. The bird is holding in its paws a sceptre and Orb. A lower par value, the Arabic numeral 3. With two sides from it, comes from year issuing: from left – 17, right – 71. Below is printed the mark of the mint "B". In the circular legend: the inscription, which means – a silver coin.
On the back of the printed image of the head of king Frederick II. The legend is applied to the text, which translates as: Friedrich – king of Prussia.
Mint Bayreuth (Brandenburg-Ansbach-Bayreuth, Prussia), minted a coin denomination of 2 gresele. On the obverse is applied the text, in four lines: in two lines nominal and name – words, in German. Below – the date of issue, under it – the sign "B", the mark of the mint. On the reverse is printed the image of the head of the king, the legend contains the inscription with the name of Frederick and his title, king of Prussia.
Groschel – a coin that is minted for three centuries, since the XVI century. At face value corresponds to a coin worth ¼ groschen. This money sign is often called a small groschen.
