For a start, it is worth noting the introduction in Greece of new small coins, 1 and 2 drachmas. Coins were made of copper, although earlier for small coins an alloy of copper and nickel was used.
A couple of interesting events also occurred in the USSR. In 1988, several batches of old-style coins were issued, the so-called "remakes". The type of coins from 1965-1986 was used, but the current year was indicated. These coins have a good collectible value.
Also in the USSR, coins of 1 ruble worth were issued, on which famous old-time writers were placed. But chasing these specimens with Gorky and Tolstoy was carried out with the help of several prints. Therefore, some coins of this type are extremely valuable.

1. Coinage of commemorative coins in Afghanistan. In 1988, the European Football Championship took place in Germany, which was reflected in this coin. Her face value - 500 Afghani, and it was made of silver.
You can also find coins from this year on the Winter Olympics, but they were minted in 1986.
2. In 1988, the minting of a coin of 10 francs began in France. The coin consisted of several parts: a central circle of nickel, and a framing ring of aluminum bronze. This type was called the “Genius of Freedom”, replacing other types of this coin. The value of this year is that only 1,850 coins were issued as a trial lot.
