Venetian larocca

In 1767, the Italian States issued a coin, which is associated with the history of the name of the printed edition, the newspaper. This – banknotes 1 larocca, equal to the nominal value of 30 Soldi.
In the XVI century the Republic of Venice begins to print small coin, with the image on the obverse of birds – magpies. The coin is made of silver, 459 carats, and is called Gazette or Gazette. The name comes from the word: forty. In Italian, the loud bird is called Gazza.
In 1556, a Gazette, which translated sounds like: "News Gazette". The printed edition was so named because it could be bought for a coin, which was called gazzeta. For illiterate citizens news read aloud at meetings, the entrance to which also cost 1 Gazette.
Then came the weekly printed edition with the name of the coin, since then printed on paper news began to be called Newspapers. The word came into use and spread around the world.
The coin, which corresponds to the value 10 Gazette, called the Liron or larocca. In 1767 the Mint of Venice, Italian States coins silver banknotes advantage 1 larocca.
On the front side of the coin there is an image of St. Mark's Lion. The Venetian lion is depicted as winged, with a halo around its head. In one paw he holds a book. The circular inscription contains a mark, which means: St. mark, Venice.
On the reverse side of the coin is a seated figure of the goddess of justice Themis, wearing a crown. On the right and left are the lions lying at her feet. In her right hand justice holds the sword of justice, in the left – Libra, the symbol of measure and justice. Below: the date of issue.
In the circular inscription there is a text in Latin, which means: love justice. This is a reminder to the rulers of the Nations, which is attributed to king Solomon. In literal translation the saying of the biblical sage means: you love justice, you are judges on the earth.
