On the East African plateau, among the Great African lakes, the country is called the Republic of Uganda. The state's capital city Kampala is located on the banks of the largest lake of the continent – Victoria. Inhabits Uganda more than 30 million people. The vast majority of them work in the agrarian sector. Coffee is the main crop, exported from the country.
Until 1966 the country had a circulation of East African shilling. Replacing it on the Ugandan shilling, which equals one hundred cents, started with the introduction of coins in denominations of 1, 2 shillings and 50 cents – an alloy of copper and Nickel, as well as 5, 10 and 20 cents in bronze. 5 shillings very briefly appeared in 1972. Now to buy these coins Uganda quite difficult, as they were withdrawn from circulation. It is quite clear that rarity affected the price of Ugandan coins of the same value.
In 1976, the material of the coin change: copper-plated steel replaced bronze in the 5 and 10 cents. 1 shilling and 50 cents were minted from steel coated with an alloy of copper and Nickel, and in 1986, the two last denominations were replaced by steel containing Nickel. In 1987, coined 5 and 10 shillings from stainless steel, these Coins did heptagonal. The inflation rate dented price of coins of Uganda, and in 1998 appeared in circulation coins in the 50, 100, 200 and 500 shillings. These values make up today's catalogue of coins of Uganda.
