In the South-West Indian ocean there is a group of Islands. Mauritius, Rodrigues, Agalega, and the archipelago, the cargados carajos and a scattering of tiny nearby islets form the whole state, called the Republic of Mauritius. The total area of its territory exceeds 2000 square kilometers. Ideal climatic conditions from autumn to spring, wonderful beaches and clear water attract many tourists.
For calculations, the inhabitants of Mauritius uses its own Mauritian rupee. It consists of one hundred cents. Catalogue of coins of Mauritius drew attention to rupees denominations of 1/2, 1, 5, 10 and 20, plus the trifle: 1, 5 and 20 cents. Rupee of Mauritius is quite "adult": it was introduced on the Islands in 1877. Then said 1, 2 and 5 copper cents and 10 and 20 silver. From 1899 to 1911, the coinage was stopped. In 1911, resumed production of copper money, and in 1934 appeared the 1/4, 1/2, and 1 rupee of silver. Buy first coins of Mauritius will, of course, you can now. But we must understand that the price of the Mauritius coins of those years are extremely high.
Since 1950, from the minting of silver coins was abandoned, and the original material was replaced by cheaper copper-Nickel alloy. A new series of coins was released in 1987, and introduced a new denomination – 5 RS. After 10 years, joined them 10 rupees, and, finally, in 2007 – 20 rupees. The cost of modern coins of Mauritius is quite acceptable.
