In 1989, several important events took place that would interest professional numismatists. Although the value of this year’s coins is quite low, some copies deserve attention.
To begin with, it is worth noting the completion of the existence of the Hungarian People's Republic. Of course, along with its collapse, the minting of the coins of this state stopped. Coins of the new type began to be minted three years later.
Also worth noting are several other events, and in particular:
1. Change of material for minting coins in Venezuela. This year, the country's mints began producing coins from nickel and multi-layered steel. The appearance of the coins has not been changed. It should be noted that previously similar material used only coins of 10 centimos (copper-nickel) and 5 bolivars (nickel).
2. The release of a new series of coins in Malaysia. The new design was similar to the previous one, but had several significant differences, including the appearance of Chinese hibiscus on the reverse, as well as various cultural objects on the obverse. This view is still used.
3. A bit earlier in the same Malaysia, the face value of 5 ringgit was withdrawn from circulation.
4. In Sweden, a coin of 200 CZK was issued. It was made of silver and is dedicated to the hockey championship.
5. In 1989 in South Africa begins the introduction into circulation of coins of 2 and 5 rand.
