1921 marked the beginning of coinage in the USSR silver coins of various denomination. This was done in preparation for monetary reform, which began only in 1924. It is noteworthy that coins were minted with the emblem of the Russian Federation, the state emblem of the USSR appeared only in 1924.

In the same year in the United States was issued the last batch of silver coins – the so-called "Morgunovka dollar" denomination of 1 dollar. The coin was named after George T. Morgan who designed it design. His monogram is on the obverse of the coin.
