In 1758 Papal States produces the circulation of banknotes during periods of vacancy of the throne and of the Board of the 248 th to Pope Clement XIII. These are exquisitely designed coins made of copper, billon, silver and gold.
This year minted gold coins with a nominal value of:
- ½ sequin, weighing in at 1,726 grams from the reign of Clement XIII;
- 1 sequin, weighing 3,452 g, the period of the vacant throne;
- 1 sequin, weighing 3,452, during the reign of Clement XIII.
The Sequin of the reign of Clement XIII is decorated similarly to each other. On the front side is a sitting Holy mother Church, consecrated by the sun. The circular inscription bears the date of issue. On the reverse: a shield with the coat of arms of Pope Clement XIII, crossed keys, above – the papal tiara.
The obverse of the sequin period of the free throne is also made with the image of the Holy Mother Church. The design of the reverse side differs from the type of coins of the period of Clement XIII. The reverse depicts a shield with the coat of arms of the cardinal, on the cross of the order of St. John of Jerusalem. Above are crossed keys and a cardinal's hat with tassels. At the top is depicted flying against the background of sunlight bird. The crossed keys symbolize power and spiritual authority. One key is considered the key to Paradise and represents power in the Kingdom of heaven. The second is a symbol of power on Earth.
Silver coins, which are issued in 1758, have denominations:
- 1 Grosso, weight 1.32 g, period of the free throne;
- 1 Grosso, weighing 1.34 g, during the reign of Clement XIII;
- 1 Grosso, weighing 1.34 g, during the reign of Clement XIII, differing in design inscriptions on the reverse;
- 2 Julio, a weight of 5.38 g, the period of the vacant throne;
- 2 Julio, a weight of 5.38 g, from the reign of Clement XIII;
- 2 Julio, a weight of 5.38 g, from the reign of Clement XIII, which differ in the design inscriptions on the reverse;
- ½ Scudo, weight 13.18 g, period of the free throne;
- 1 Scudo, weight 26,425 g, period free throne.
Making silver coins like gold. Images of the coat of arms of the vacant throne, the coat of arms of the Pope, crossed keys are used.
For collectors and professionals are of interest coins made of billon and copper, which were issued in 1758.
