"Golden Elizabeth"

In 1755, a gold coin was minted, which is considered the most expensive in the history of tsarist Russia. It is 20 rubles, or the "Golden Elizabeth". The coin is issued by the St. Petersburg Mint. The weight of the coin is 33.14 g, the gold content is 33 g. the Double chervonets is printed in a trial version. There are only two copies of the coin: one is stored in the Hermitage, the other – in a private collection, was bought at the auction of St. James for 1.55 million pounds.
The name and design of the coin are dedicated to Elizabeth, as minting is performed during the reign of the Empress. Engraver – Benjamin Scott. The coin was planned to be printed to improve the defense of the state, but such a large denomination was not approved by the Empress for mass production. Gold coins, worth 20 rubles, have never been printed.
The quality of coinage – uncirculated, which means: not circulating. These coins have a matte finish without shiny, mirrored surfaces, so that traces and scratches are not visible.
In the center, on the front side of the coin, there is an image of Elizabeth in the Royal clothes, with flowing curls. Below it is the abbreviated name of the mint – St. PETERSBURG. In the circular inscription – a legend, the inscription which is dedicated to the Empress.
On the reverse side: in the center is the Imperial coat of arms. On four sides, perpendicular to each other, to the Central coat of arms joins territorial – Siberia, Moscow, Astrakhan, Kazan. In between the characters is divided by digits, the date of issue: 1, 7, 5, 5. In the circular inscription the text alternates with crowns, which are located above the coats of arms. The legend indicates the abbreviated face value of the coin in alphabetical form.
