Several small island States in the Caribbean, with a population of more than six hundred thousand people, in June 1981 created the economic and monetary Union. The Union was composed of seven core members: Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Anguilla and the virgin Islands on the rights of associate members. The administrative centre of the Union is the city Morne in Saint Lucia.
All these countries share a common currency - East Caribbean dollar equal to 100 cents. The only exceptions are the virgin Islands – there for calculations use the American dollar.
After the creation of the Union was the first series of coins: 1, 2, 5, 10 and 25 cents and 1 dollar. However, in 1989, the form of dollar coins changed. Of the round it turned into a interval of decagonal. Form odnolistovoe coins is also unusual – it segment-Lastochka. All these values are still present in the catalog of coins of the Caribbean Islands.
