In the circle of collectors, there is a real hunt for a 1958 coin worth 3 kopeks. The entire few copies of this nondescript coin was intended for shopping in food machines that were popular in the fifties of the last millennium in Russia.
The Leningrad Mint conscientiously fulfilled the order, however, these minted coins did not enter everyday use.
The fact is that during this period there already was a circulation of a three-kopeck coin. The government made a timely decision that two types of coins are not convenient to use for retail and service in vending machines.
The whole print run was abolished, but a small number remained in private collections. Now these coins of 3 kopecks of 1958 are in great demand among connoisseurs and lovers of Russian history.
The coin is made of the so-called "aluminum bronze". With a weight of 3 grams, the ode reaches 22 millimeters in diameter.
Among the rare and expensive coins of the bygone Soviet era, the coinage of 1958 is listed as one of the most expensive. For collectors, it represents an image of a phantom from the past - never existing on the market, but having a man-made origin by government order.
