The diversity of banknotes of the Apennine Peninsula, at the time of the scattered states of Italy, attracts researchers and collectors. The year 1734 adds a new circulation of monetary units to this abundance. Only soldo issued 10 different denominations. Among them - 3 copper, 6 - silver and 1 - gold.
Of interest is the silver coin, issued this year by the Mint of Venice. These are: 5 soldi, weighing 1.24 g, measuring 19 mm. On the obverse: the lion, on the reverse side: the crowned figure of justice. This coin was recognized as irrelevant to the law on monetary circulation, and was banned from its circulation.
In Venice, a ten gold soldier coin was minted, weighing 3.46 g. There are no reliable images of this sign. It is known that on the obverse and on the reverse the lion of St. Mark is depicted, looking to the left.
Another rare coin appeared in 1734. The Principality of Lucca mints silver Santacro, in denominations of 25, weighing 8.6 g. The name means in translation - the holy cross, which is depicted on the reverse side of the coin. On the reverse, along the perimeter, there is an inscription in Latin: “Holy is in focus”. On the obverse of the coin:
the crowned coat of arms of the oligarchic Republic of Lucca.
The numismatic copy of the gold coin 1 osella, which is issued this year, differs in design from previous denominations. On the obverse: the lion of St. Mark. On the reverse: on the perimeter a ducal cap is depicted framed in olive branches. In the middle - the inscription in Roman numerals and capital letters, in five lines, with the date of issue.
In 1734, the Italian states produced small grano coins, translated from Italian: grain. These are coins:
- copper, face value 1, weighing 4.6 g;
- silver, with a nominal value of 60, weighing 12.8 g;
- silver, with a nominal value of 120, weighing 25.61 g.
Famous images of silver coins. On the obverse: a large crown above the weapon shields, down in the oval, denotes face value. On the reverse side: the reclining god of the volcano holds a shovel. In the background, on the right, Vesuvius is smoking. Below is the release date.
Copper coin is known only by description. On the front: an eagle with a crown, on the reverse: a four-line inscription in a frame.
